"AANC’s Magnet designation is the highest and most prestigious credential a healthcare organization can achieve for nursing excellence and quality patient care."
Preface, American Nurses Credentialing Center, 2014 Magnet Application Manual
Phase Two of the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) application process for the Magnet ® credential, is submission of extensive written documentation. This documentation must specifically describe and demonstrate how a facility meets each of the Sources of Evidence (SOEs) delineated in the ANCC Magnet Application Manual. The opportunity to move on to the next phase of the process, the on-site visit, hinges on the quality and thoroughness of this written documentation.
I specialize as a Magnet Writer who works with a facility’s Magnet Coordinator and his/her Magnet Team (which may include a Website Manager and Magnet Consultant) during this critical documentation process. I pull together the clinical content provided by the nursing staff and Magnet Team; write, edit, review and polish each of the required SOEs; and produce documentation as required and guided by the coordinator and consultant. I am responsible for making sure the examples and evidence of clinical and professional excellence included in the SOEs are conveyed clearly, showcased appropriately, and meet all current application requirements.
As a Magnet Writer, I ensure that the overall SOE documentation:
* Speaks with “one voice” * Offers narratives that are complete, concise, compelling and grammatically correct * Has continuity of format, language and style * Fulfills ANCC 2014 Application Manual SOE document preparation requirements re: * Narratives * Evidence/Exhibits * Empirical Outcomes (EO) Presentation and Data Display * Paper/Electronic Documentation Submission
